Concentrated. Medium-ruby color, with ripe plum, cigar tobacco and smoke aromas. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still closed, almost clumsy. Give it time.
2nd Classified Growth in year 1855. It is often said that Pichon Comtesse is a feminine wine. The property owes a lot to women. The "Comtesse de Lalande", in the 19th century, and May-Elyane de Lencquesaing, owner until 2006, wrote the most beautiful pages of its history. From the 17th century to nowadays, only two families have lead this château, with highly colourful characters, and often women. Feminine, Pichon Comtesse is also by its style. The wine is certainly the most delicate of all the Pauillac. Nothing to see with the uprightness of the Latour neighbour or the austerity of the old vintages of Pichon Baron. The property owes this characteristic to its vine varieties, with a big part of merlot and of Cabernet Franc. The roundness and the silky tannins make the magic of this wine. Pichon Comtesse is also long and strongly shaped. The property was taken over at the end of 2006 by Champagnes Louis Roederer, the Champagne family group thus wishing to reaffirm its faith in the tradition of Bordeaux.
