Pauillac
Fifth growth of Médoc
France - - Red wine
75 cl - 13% vol.
Price/btl: €53.20 inc. VAT
Finely concentrated fruit, shows natural ripeness and lift and extremely attractive elegance among a range of much bigger wines, very pretty style. Drink 2009/20.
This powerful, tannic, structured effort from Mouton-Rothschild’s stable is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by an earthy nose dominated by black currants and toasty, smoky oak. Medium to full-bodied with relatively high tannin, decent acidity, and a fine finish, it should be at its best between 2014-2030.
Souple et léger, le vin qui est très marqué par les cabernets, ce qui est inhabituel pour le cru, ne manque pas de distinction. Cela lui donne un cachet certain.
5th Cru Classé in 1855. Bought in 1934 by baron Philippe de Rothschild, this wine has been successively called Mouton d'Armailhac, Mouton Baron Philippe, Mouton Baronne Philippe before it went back in 1989, to its original name: Armailhac. Less and less light, Armailhac has recently gained in deepness, power and elegance.
