The property in brief

A classic plateau property, acquired by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953. The name Trotanoy comes from the medieval french word trop anoi (too annoying), describing its soil which was too hard too work. The fascinating soil diversity - half gravel mixed with clay and half deep black clay - with the presence of iron pan in the subsoil brings power and depth as well as complexity to the wine. The wine has a style very close to that of Chateau Petrus, thanks to the similar nature of the soils. It is one of the best Pomerols: mild, round, fat, with a multidimensional deepness. Grape varieties: Merlot 90%, Cabernet Franc 10%.

Owner: Jean-Pierre Moueix

Manager: Christophe Moueix

Blend of the 1979 vintage: 10% Cabernet Franc, 90% Merlot

Soil: clayey gravels and deep black clay on an iron rich subsoil
