Here comes the wine of the vintage! Intense black color. Intense and very aromatic nose. This is the most aromatic of all first growths tasted during this future campaign. Upon swirling, it appears pure and noble. From entry, it provides strong pleasure. Developing dense, very, very fruity and with beautiful weaving. No doubt that this is the best weaving of Bordeaux this year. Very juicy and pure, the wine evolves on fine tannins without granularity. Very beautiful aromas emerge on the finish. This is very good with great length. I salute its very good construction. A blend of 81 % cabernet sauvignon, and 19 % merlot. PH 3.9. Total acidity 3.2 Alcohol: 12.75 %. Yield of 42 hl/ha. The Grand Vin represents a selection of 42% of the harvest. I just want to remind our readers that a bloc of 4ha of cabernet franc, marvelously located at the top of the plateau was pulled out in 2004 and was planted with cabernet sauvignon. When this plot will come into the blend, I imagine that Mouton will further gain in quality

Composed of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the deep purple-colored 2007 Mouton reveals sweet aromas of creme de cassis, subtle oak, and flowers. Medium to full-bodied and elegant with sweet tannin as well as flavors and a texture that build incrementally on the palate, this strong effort should evolve over the next 15 years.

The property in brief

Château Mouton Rothschild, owned by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her children, is regarded as one of the world’s greatest wines. The story of Mouton Rothschild is that of a magical combination of soil, climate and devotion of one man, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902-1988), Baroness Philippine’s father. In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, from the English branch of the family, bought Château Brane-Mouton and immediately renamed it in Mouton Rothschild. Baron Philippe de Rothschild, when he took over the estate in 1922, decided to devote his life to it and to make Mouton unique, producing the very best wine. In 1924, he was the first to introduce entire chateau bottling. In 1926, he built the majestic 100-metre barrel hall. In 1945, to celebrate the liberation of France, he had the idea of crowning the label of that year’s vintage with a V for Victory. Since then, a different label is created for each vintage by famous painters. In 1962, he opened the Museum of Wine in Art. In 1973, he obtained the revision of the 1855 classification so that Mouton would be officially recognized as a First Growth.
